tour de paris (day two)

Posted by: Eunice Shertaria on: January 21, 2008

Day two began with the same breakfast, baguette and coffee, continued with Louvre museum as the beginning of today’s excitement. So, we took the metro again to reach the museum. Apparently, Parisian did not let us to be happy all day long since one of my friend, Ryan, got his wallet stolen by a cruel pickpocket when he’s just got into the metro. This incident has become a warning for all of you my beloved blog reader who probably have plan to got to Paris someday. Please please please beware of those pickpocket in the city. Do not put your wallet on the back of your jeans. Put it somewhere safe and unreachable. And the most important thing is do not put your passport inside your wallet. In case your wallet is stolen, you still have your passport. Luckily, Ryan did not put his passport and bus ticket inside his wallet.

Because of this incident, we did not get inside the Louvre together. Ryan and some of us went to the police station first. The rest of us, including me, went inside the museum after spending some time taking picture in front of the famous glass pyramid. I could tell you that the museum was huuuuuggeeee!! It has three wings, Denon, Sully, and Richelieu. And according to my web guidance, visiting one wing is enough if you don’t have all day. I did not believe all of it. hehe. That’s why we chose two wings, Denon and Richelieu.

The first wing, Denon, was chosen because in this wing lies the most famous painting of all time, the Monalisa. But it took several time before we finally met her because this wing was sooo big. Before reaching our destination we saw various sizes of paintings and sculptures. Those artistic things perhaps have hundreds years of age but they’re still looked gorgeous. But most of the paintings in this wing have religious theme, especially Christian. I couldn’t stop being mesmerized by looking at them. Well, finally, I saw it, The Monalisa.  It was…SMALL. Hehe. I thought at least it was big. But, to my surprise, it’s small. And we couldn’t go near the painting. But fortunately, we could take her picture, yay! All of these Louvre and Monalisa thingy couldn’t stop reminding me of The Da Vinci Code novel. I could start imagining where Mr Langdon found the dead body of the curator which began his adventure inside the museum. Haha.

After spending some time staring at Monalisa, we continued our museum trip to the Richelieu wing. Anne said Richelieu meant Rich people, or at least something close to that. Well, my purpose visiting this wing was to see Napoleon’s apartment. And when I arrived there, I knew why it’s called the Richelieu. The Napoleon’s apartment was actually the real one that was moved to the museum. So everything was exactly the same. The curtain, the chair, the sofas, the chandelier, the dining room, the bedroom, everything was  luxurious. Even the fireplace was made from gold!! I was amazed all the time..hehe..The funny thing was the sofas that are specifically designed for his wife. It was made so uniquely that if his wife and her guests sat there, they couldn’t see and talk to each other. What a possessive husband! Another part of this wing was the Louis XVI inheritance which was not that attractive for me. So, we ended the Louvre journey and decided to continue to see Notre Dame Cathedral.

We walked from Louvre to Notre Dame, and I could tell you, it was quite far. Huhu. I was so tired. But the church was beautiful but a little bit frightening. Well, perhaps because the church itself was called the Gothic church. There were many sculptures in the outside wall and I caught a devil sculpture right across an angle. Apparently, they were made to represent The Last Judgement. It’s so scary..Huu..When we got there, the queue to get inside the church was quite long but we decided to get inside. The inside was dark. There were many sculptures too such as Joan of Arc, etc. We actually could go to the tower where we could see the bell and the Gargoyle sculpture. But we didn’t go up and decided to continue our day to visit Jardin du Luxembourg, one the most beautiful garden in Paris, where we took a rest for few minutes there.

The next destination was the Pantheon church. Since it was already dark when we got there, we only took picture outside the church. After that, we started to find something to eat and finally we found a cheap sushi restaurant. Wasn’t it weird to eat sushi, a Japanese food, while you were in Paris???? Hahaha.. Blame escargot for its expensive price!

Finally, after filling our stomach with delicious sushi, we went to our final destination of the day, The Moulin Rouge. I actually had no idea what the place would be like. But as I got there, I felt a little bit disappointment. I was like..“Oh ternyata gini doang toh??” hehe.. Yeah, it was only a theater where you had to wear a suit for male and a dress for female so that you could enter. Of course you had to pay the entrance fee which was not that cheap..hehe.. We took some pictures there before we went back to the hotel.

Pyuhh..there you go, the second day of my Paris trip. Next day was the final day. We planned to go to St Ouen fleamarket since I’ve heard that it was the biggest flea market in the world. So, it’s time for some shopping!! yay..
